Self-Paced Programs
Customizable Self-Paced Programs to Meet Your Goals
If you are interested in becoming an electrician but cannot make it to our trade school or be logged in at a specific time of day, our Self-Paced Correspondence program may be the choice for you. You can take your classes when they fit into your schedule. Maine Electrical Institute offers self-paced electrician training online. Do a little each night, or work on it during the weekends…the choice is yours. Since it is self-paced, and there are no specific start dates, you can purchase the program and start at any time of the year.
We provide you with the books you need through our book-lending program…and access to the course quizzes online (and homework and videos for many courses). You will be able to communicate with the instructor if needed, but replies will not be instantaneous. At the end of each course, you take a proctored exam…either at our facility or through an approved proctor, swap books for the next one, and move to the next course, progressing through at your own speed.

What is the difference between a Residential and a Journeyman License?
For answers to this question see: How to Become an Electrician
What is a Limited Low Voltage License?
A Limited Low Voltage license is a special license that allows you to work on electrical systems under 95 volts. These electrical systems often take a special level of expertise. Once you have obtained this license, you are able to perform entertainment/sound system installation, landscape lighting, security systems, fiber optic cable systems, telephone wiring systems, data wiring systems, and other low voltage systems.
What if I want to get a different type of Limited Electrician License other than those you listed?
The state of Maine does do licensing for various other types of limited fields. For more information about which courses are required for the specific licenses, see this page on their website.
